Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector

Carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector in a single device

SKU 2846-CO2SMOKERILEVEAN 8219671100229

Description

Carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector in a single device. It can signal the presence of smoke and carbon monoxide, two potentially deadly threats, with two different LED colors paired with two different audible signals. The carbon monoxide detector is designed to alarm at an exposure level (CO) above 100ppm. The smoke detector only indicates the presence of smoke reaching the sensor; it is not designed to detect gas, heat, or flames. Wall mounting. The detector has a low-battery alarm indicator. Power: three “AA” 1.5 Volt batteries. Dimensions (mm): diameter 104×39. Complete with wall-mounting plugs.

Carbon Monoxide

  • Carbon monoxide is a product of incomplete combustion of organic fuels (coal, oil, wood, fuels). It is present in motor vehicle exhaust and tobacco smoke.
  • Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless, tasteless, and poisonous gas. It is toxic because by binding firmly to iron atoms in blood hemoglobin it forms a complex much more stable than that formed by oxygen. The formation of this complex causes hemoglobin to be stabilized in the form of carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) which, due to its allosteric properties, releases oxygen to tissues with more difficulty. This leads to unconsciousness and then death. Even at low concentration, carbon monoxide can reduce the oxygen concentration in the brain to the point that the victim becomes unconscious and, in severe cases, dies of asphyxiation. It mixes well with air, with which it easily forms explosive mixtures, and penetrates easily through walls and ceilings. In the presence of finely dispersed metal powders, the substance forms toxic and flammable metal carbonyls. It can react vigorously with oxygen, acetylene, chlorine, fluorine, nitrogen oxides.
