Description

The MCP23017-E/SP is a GPIO (General-Purpose Input/Output) expander that uses I2C (Inter-Integrated Circuit) serial communication to increase the number of GPIO pins available on a microcontroller or other host device.
Key features
  • 16-bit remote bidirectional I/O port: the I/O pins are configured as inputs by default.
  • Three hardware address pins to allow up to eight devices on the bus: the device has three hardware address pins that allow up to eight devices to be connected on the same I2C bus, each with a unique address.
  • Configurable interrupt output pins: the interrupt output pins can be configured as Active High, Active Low or open-drain, as required.
  • INTA and INTB can be configured to work independently or together: the INTA and INTB interrupt pins can be set to work independently or combined, depending on the needs of the application.
