Set containing all the laser-cut plexiglass parts and the 3D-printed enclosure used in the project “LA FIAMMA CHE NON BRUCIA” published in Elettronica In magazine no.239 October 2019. The plexiglass parts are 3 sheets of 3 mm material: one cut away inside to the outline of the flame, which is the front piece (it measures 155×360 mm, widening to 189.4 mm at the base); a plain white plexiglass sheet of the same size, fitted behind it either in direct contact or held off by 5 or 6 mm spacers (it is 1 mm smaller than the front sheet on each side); and a black plexiglass back sheet of the same size as the front one, to which the LED strips are fixed with soft double-sided tape or silicone sealant. The 3D-printed enclosure is made of black PLA and is screwed behind the rear sheet that supports the Neopixel strips; its back cover has two flexible button covers, cut so that they press on the P1 and P2 keys of the Business Card FT1120 board (not included).

Warning! the set contains only the plexiglass parts and the 3D-printed enclosure needed to build “LA FIAMMA CHE NON BRUCIA”, published in Elettronica In magazine no.239 October 2019. Everything else, that is the assorted small hardware, the base board of the “Business Card Elettronica” project (code FT1120M) and the high-density 1 metre Neopixel strip with 144 LEDs (code 1MNEO144), is not included (see the related products).

The “Flame that does not burn” project
The Neopixel LED flame is an excellent gadget for all sorts of occasions, easy to build and fully customisable. It is ideal for Halloween, for the end-of-year holidays, as a fire simulator for a gothic or slightly dark pub or bar and, why not, as the heart of a fake fireplace. The project is versatile enough to make shapes other than a flame: put the LEDs inside a pumpkin and you get a glowing ornament for Halloween, with the flames spilling out of the holes and lighting up everything around with spectacular effects. Granted, what you get is not a real flame made to give heat, but it creates an atmosphere of virtual warmth, with all the charm of a flame and of its flickering, which on dull days is very welcome indeed.
