Description

The AL8861 LED driver breakout board is a hysteretic DC-DC step-down converter specifically designed for driving single or multiple LEDs. It can deliver an externally adjustable output current of up to 1A, from an input voltage ranging from 4.5V to 40V. This type of converter is widely used in a broad range of systems in our daily lives, where it is necessary to step up or step down a DC voltage depending on the specific application.

The breakout board includes an integrated power switch and an output current sensing circuit, which is set by an external resistor that configures the nominal average output current. Additionally, LED brightness can be adjusted via a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control signal on the VSET pin, which can also be driven continuously if dimming is not desired. Furthermore, the soft-start time can be managed by the value of an external capacitor between the VSET pin and GND. Finally, applying a voltage of 0.2V or lower to the VSET pin can disable the output and put the device into standby mode with low quiescent current.
