RFID Electronic Lock with Relay

This kit lets you build an RFID electronic lock. It includes every part needed to make a secure, versatile system that recognises RFID tags and cards to lock or unlock simply and reliably.

Description

This electronic lock has a relay that switches when an RFID tag held near the antenna is recognised. The RFID module is driven by an Arduino Nano compatible board, which sends the write commands and reads the data. The Nano board takes care of storing, deleting and checking the tag, and of driving the relay output.

The system offers two security modes, selected with a jumper. The first lets you store and delete RFID tags directly, that is without a control tag. The second allows tags to be stored and removed only after the Master card previously stored in the system has been checked.

The relay gives you the complete changeover contact set: common (C), normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC), for maximum flexibility. The contacts can be used, for example, to close the supply line of an electric door lock or to release a turnstile. The relay output works in monostable mode only, with a 1 second activation.

The circuit or device being controlled must work on DC or AC voltage up to 230V AC, drawing no more than 3 amperes. The relay and its drive circuit run on 5V DC, taken from the 5V pin of the Nano board. That voltage comes from the internal regulator of the Nano, which is fed through the Vin pin.

Two LEDs, one red and one green, show the operating state of the circuit and help during programming and during tag reading in normal use as an electronic lock.

The Nano board is supplied already programmed.

The kit is supplied with assembly instructions. Soldering required.
