Description

This capacitive touch switch module offers a wear-free alternative to traditional mechanical actuators. It detects touch on its sensitive surface through variations in the capacitive field, generating a configurable output signal. Its capacitive technology allows installation in positions that are inaccessible to traditional mechanical switches.
This capacitive touch switch module offers an ideal solution for switching operations without the wear typical of conventional mechanical actuators. Once powered, the module detects variations in the capacitive field when a finger touches the sensitive surface. Sensitivity is excellent: even with a distance of 3-4 mm between the finger and the touch area, the module responds by changing the output state. These variations generate an output signal that can be configured as high or low level and used through the I/O connector on the module. Thanks to its capacitive technology, the module can be installed in positions otherwise inaccessible to traditional mechanical switches, allowing mounting behind materials such as thin glass panels or cabinet doors without compromising its functionality.
Operating principle
  • By applying a solder jumper on A ( Figure 1 ) it is possible to configure the TTP223 module by changing the output state:
    – A open:
    the pulse goes from Low to High when the switch is activated
    – A closed: the pulse goes from High to Low when the switch is activated
  • By applying a solder jumper on B ( Figure 1 ) it is possible to change the operating mode:
  • Direct mode (B open, stable operation):
    With B open, the module operates in direct mode, characterised by stable operation. In this mode, the voltage level stays constantly high (+5V) while the finger is on the module’s touch area and returns low (+0V) when the finger is removed.
  • Toggle mode (B closed, bistable operation):
    With B closed, the module operates in toggle mode, also known as bistable operation. In this mode, the voltage level goes high (+5V) when the finger touches the module’s touch area and stays in this state until the touch area on the board is touched again with the finger. When this second touch occurs, the voltage level returns low, bringing the module back to the inactive state (Low).

Figure 2 – At point X you can solder a small capacitor up to 50 pF to reduce the module’s sensitivity. The red LED D1 has a series resistor R1 of just 120 Ω.
