Load Protection Module

Description
| Load protection based on the dual LM358 operational amplifier. Applied to a DC circuit, it disconnects the load via a relay (normally energized) when the monitored voltage drops below a certain value (adjustable via a dedicated trimmer). In circuits powered by traditional power supplies, the protection prevents damage caused, for example, by a power supply overload (identifiable precisely by the excessive drop in the supplied voltage…) but also malfunction of the load, which could occur precisely when the supply voltage drops excessively.
In battery-powered circuits, the protection serves both to stop the operation of circuits that would not work correctly at too low a voltage, and to prevent excessive battery discharge, to avoid damaging it or to keep the little remaining energy available for other, higher-priority circuits. The circuit does not allow monitoring of the same supply voltage it is powered from. |
