Breakout board built around the AMS AS3935 chip, able to pick up the radio-frequency disturbance caused by an electrical arc and, through suitable processing, deliver a signal corresponding to the detection of a lightning strike and its intensity. Breakout board built around the AMS AS3935 chip, able to pick up the radio-frequency disturbance caused by an electrical arc and, through suitable processing, deliver a signal corresponding to the detection of a lightning strike and its intensity. All the signals needed to drive the chip are brought out to a row of 2.54 mm pitch pads along one edge. Data is exchanged with the outside world over the I²C bus or SPI.
To use the breakout board as a lightning detector you need to pair it with an Arduino Uno or a Fishino Uno, whose job is to analyse the signal from the sensor and process it, then show the number of electrical discharges detected and their estimated distance on a serial LCD display.
The sensor is driven from Arduino using a library that can be downloaded from github at https://github.com/raivisr/AS3935-Arduino-Library.

The pack does not include the Arduino or Fishino, nor the serial display (see related products).
