Description

16-channel Modbus TCP/RTU PoE Ethernet relay module designed for industrial automation applications, supervision and remote control of electrical loads over an Ethernet network. It supports the Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU protocols, allowing easy integration with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA and industrial control systems.

The two Ethernet ports allow several devices to be daisy-chained, simplifying the wiring of the installation. It is also compatible with PoE (Power over Ethernet), which carries power and data over a single network cable. Alternatively it can be powered from a DC voltage between 7 and 36 VDC.

Each output is driven by a 10 A relay with its own driver and optocoupler isolation, a solution that improves system reliability and protects the control logic from interference coming from the power circuits. The circuit also includes reverse polarity protection and flyback diodes for greater operating safety.

The module provides turn-on delay and turn-off delay functions (flash-on/flash-off), useful for building timing sequences without resorting to external devices.

Besides the Modbus protocols, it also supports control via MQTT, making it suitable for IoT solutions and remote monitoring systems. The ABS DIN-rail enclosure makes installation inside electrical cabinets straightforward, while the status LEDs allow the operation of the microcontroller, the network and the communications to be checked at a glance.

It lets you control the 16 relays and other Modbus devices by sending Modbus RTU/TCP commands over the Ethernet connection.

It supports TCP Server, TCP Client, UDP, UDP Multicast, HTTP and MQTT modes, and is compatible with the Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP protocols.

The device supports several power supply modes for maximum installation flexibility:

  • Power via the DC port (jack) for direct use with an external power supply
  • Power via the DC 7~36V terminal block, with a wide voltage range input
  • Power via PoE (IEEE 802.3af) compliant with the Power over Ethernet standard

The device features a complete set of diagnostic and communication LEDs, which allow the operation of the module, of the Ethernet network and of the data exchange activity to be monitored at a glance.

  • RUN: Ethernet port indicator, blinks during normal operation of the Ethernet connection
  • STA: MCU indicator, blinks when the microcontroller is running
  • TXD: data transmission indicator, lights up while data is being sent
  • RXD: data reception indicator, lights up while data is being received
  • Left yellow Ethernet LED: indicates that the TCP connection is active
  • Right yellow Ethernet LED: data activity indicator, blinks during transmission

Interfaces and status indicators

The device supports daisy-chaining through the Ethernet port and power distribution via cascaded PoE, simplifying the network architecture and reducing wiring.

It has 2 built-in Ethernet ports, designed for communication and system expansion:

  • One port can be used for dual network serial server communication
  • The other port can be used for daisy-chaining or for communication with additional devices

This arrangement allows a scalable and flexible network, making it easy to integrate several modules without the need for additional external switches.

Note on cascaded power
Every module connected in a daisy-chain configuration must be powered individually or through cascaded PoE power.
The maximum consumption of a single module is 7 W. When using cascaded PoE power, carefully check the power the PoE router or switch can deliver, to guarantee stable and safe operation of the whole system.

The module uses relays with highly reliable contacts, rated up to 10A at 250VAC / 30VDC.

This capacity allows medium-power electrical loads to be driven directly, ensuring stable and safe switching in both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC).
