This complete kit is designed to let anyone, from beginners to experts, build a four-wheel-drive 4WD WiFi Robot Car. The vehicle can be driven remotely from both a PC and a smartphone through a web interface, and lets you watch the pictures taken by its built-in camera. The key to it all is the powerful ESP32-CAM, a board that combines advanced Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11 b/g/n) with dual-mode Bluetooth (Classic and BLE).

The 2 Megapixel camera (OV2640) delivers sharp, detailed images, while the micro-SD card slot (up to 4 GB) lets you store the captured data. A total of 9 I/O pins provide connectivity and customisation options. On top of that, the high-brightness LED on the front can be used as a FLASH to improve visibility in poor light, or as a lamp for the scene being captured.

Programming the Robot Car is easy with the Arduino IDE, and sketches (example sketches included in the box) are uploaded through a dedicated programming interface for the ESP32-CAM. The clear, detailed assembly instructions make it extremely easy to put together.

This kit is a hands-on way to explore electronics, programming and robotics, and a foundation for learning and building more advanced skills.

Documentation
  • During programming, that is after compiling, the Arduino IDE tells me that the COM port is not accessible, or that there is a communication problem with the device that is not down to the hardware.
    Some devices may work correctly even though they are based on the CH340. We recommend uninstalling the drivers and installing them again. Click here to download the driver removal/installation tool.
