Description

This NC 80°C thermal switch is a protection device designed to monitor and manage overheating in electrical circuits. The term “NC” (Normally Closed) means that the switch contact is closed under normal conditions and opens when the temperature reaches a value of 80°C. This interrupts the current flow to the circuit, preventing damage caused by an excessive rise in temperature.

The device has a sensitive thermal element that reads the ambient temperature and, once the 80°C threshold is passed, trips the contact-opening mechanism. As soon as the temperature falls below the critical value, the contact closes again automatically, restoring the circuit.

The NC 80°C thermal switch is commonly used where electric motors, electronic equipment, battery power supplies and electrical systems need protection from damage caused by high temperatures. It is particularly useful in devices working in environments with temperature swings, or that could overheat because of a fault.

Applications
  • Fan or cooling system control
    The switch opens the circuit when 80 °C is reached, automatically starting fans or cooling systems.
  • Thermal signalling (LED or buzzer)
    Used to trigger visual or audible signals (e.g. LED or buzzer) warning that the thermal threshold has been passed.
  • Logic input for microcontrollers
    It can provide an input signal to a microcontroller when the temperature threshold is passed.
  • Temperature-driven load switching
    Fitted in a circuit where a component should switch on only once the temperature goes above 80 °C (e.g. heating elements, relays, indicators, etc.).

    Bimetal: the sensor is made of two metals with different thermal expansion coefficients; when the trip temperature is reached, the bending of the bimetallic strip opens or closes the electrical contact.
