Description

The KS0163 shield is an RGB matrix made up of 40 WS2812 LEDs, designed to work with Arduino UNO R3 and Arduino UNO R4. It has a stackable design, compatible with the UNO R3 and R4 boards. The board uses the WS2812 chip, which allows each LED to be controlled individually via a single Arduino pin. Color control is simple and allows dynamic RGB combinations to be created. It is also compatible with the Adafruit NeoPixel library, which makes it easier to integrate with Arduino to create effects such as “rainbow” and animations.

Each pixel includes not only a digital data latch and a signal amplification circuit, but also a precision internal oscillator and a programmable constant-current control at 12V. This ensures a high degree of pixel color uniformity.

The data transfer protocol uses RZ (return-to-zero) communication mode, and after the pixel powers on, the signal is received and processed by the first pixel, which then transmits it to the next one.

Among the main advantages of WS2812 LEDs are a low supply voltage, energy efficiency, high brightness, wide diffusion angle, excellent color consistency and a long lifespan.

  • Reverse polarity protection circuit: in the event of reversed power supply, the LED’s internal IC circuit will not be damaged.
  • Shared power supply: the control circuit and the LED’s light source use the same power supply.
  • Integration in a single SMD component: the control circuit and the RGB chip are integrated into a single 5050 SMD component, forming a complete pixel control unit.
  • Signal reshaping circuit: received signals are reshaped before being sent to the next driver, preventing the accumulation of waveform distortion.
  • Built-in reset circuit: includes both a power-on reset circuit and a power-off reset circuit.
  • Full color display: each pixel can display 256 brightness levels for each of the three primary colors, allowing up to 16,777,216 colors, with a scan frequency of no less than 400Hz/s.
  • Serial cascade interface: data reception and decoding takes place via a single signal line.
  • Transmission distance without additional circuits: when the distance between two points is less than five meters, no additional circuitry is required.
  • Support for up to 1024 points: with a refresh rate of 30 fps, the board supports up to 1024 points in cascade.
  • High color uniformity: the light color is highly uniform, making the board cost-effective and high-performing.
