Additional information
PLA, or polylactic acid, is a material of biological origin, obtained by polymerising lactic acid. The acid itself comes from maize starch and sugar cane, and it is biodegradable under the right climatic and environmental conditions. For 3D printing it has some interesting properties, such as a melting temperature of around 160 degrees, which rises according to any other components added for colouring and for greater plasticity. PLA is spreading fast as a printing material, both for its particularly attractive colours and translucent finishes and for the fewer problems it gives during printing. PLA parts are nonetheless strong enough to make printer parts.
