PLA, Polylactic Acid, is a biologically sourced material, as it is obtained through the polymerization of lactic acid. This is derived from corn starch and sugarcane and is biodegradable under appropriate climatic and environmental conditions. For 3D printing, it offers interesting characteristics such as a melting temperature around 160 degrees, which increases depending on any other components added for coloring, and greater plasticity. PLA is rapidly spreading as a printing material both for its particularly attractive colors and transparencies, and for fewer printing-related issues. PLA parts are nonetheless sufficiently strong for creating printer parts.
