Description

uChip is a small-form-factor Cortex M0+ development board. Its form factor is compatible with 16-pin DIP ICs: you can easily use uChip in multiple projects without having to disconnect wires or redesign the entire circuit.

uChip is based on the ATSAMD21 microcontroller, the same as the Arduino Zero: most sketches written for the Arduino Zero will run on uChip without modification!

uChip’s small size allows for more compact designs while still providing 13 PWM and 8 analog inputs!
The integrated buck converter provides 3.3 V or 5 V (software-selectable) with up to 1 A of current!
If you want to use uChip as a USB host, you can power it externally with an input voltage from 3.3 to 5 V: an integrated boost converter will step the input voltage up to 5 V at up to 500 mA.

Technical specifications

  • Integrated 500 mA boost and 1 A buck converter
  • Each DCDC converter can be turned off individually: for example, if you want to use an external power supply (self-powered device) or if you want to turn off an external USB device connected with a micro A cable
  • When powered via the USB port, the output voltage on the power pins can be software-selected between 3.3 V or the USB voltage (typically 5 V +/- 10%).
  • Pin 15 can be configured (via SMD jumper) as an additional auxiliary 3.3 V output at 100 mA when 5 V is present on the V_EXT pin (pin 16). By default, pin 15 is a regular I/O. If this feature is not used, 5/3.3V (up to 1A) is available on pin 16
  • 14 I/O pins (2 of which can be used to connect an external SWD programmer/debugger) and 2 power pins (VCC and GND)
  • Status LED (can be turned on/off via software using a single instruction)
  • Multifunction button for reset/program
  • 8 12-bit ADC inputs
  • 10-bit DAC output
  • 14 interrupt pins
  • Up to 5 serials among SPI, I2C, and UART
  • I2S port for audio decoders (e.g., UDA1334A)
  • 13 PWM pins
  • Dimensions: 28.5 mm x 10.16 mm including USB port (27.23 mm x 10.16 mm excluding USB port)
  • 4-layer PCB
  • Compatible with CMOS IC pinout: power and GND are on pins 16 and 8, so it is also possible to emulate some 16-pin CMOS ICs (4000 and 74HC series)
