Description
| This small breakout board extends the connection distance between I²C-Bus devices (tested up to 20 metres, and the range can be greater depending on the quality and type of cable used). It is essentially an excellent current-mode buffer that makes I²CBus communication immune to interference over distances that could not normally be covered by a protocol which, by its very nature, is intended for on-board data communication between Master devices (typically microcontrollers) and peripherals such as sensors, memories and parallel-interface I/O expanders. For the best possible signal quality and range, use cat. 5e Ethernet network cable, using one of its twisted pairs for the data and, where possible, connecting the cable shield braid at both ends to the ground of each board. Connecting the shield raises immunity to interference and, together with the current-mode operation of the extenders, strengthens communication over long distances. The device must be used in pairs, so it has to be bought in multiples of 2 units, which are then connected to each other with cat. 5e cable. Please note: the board is supplied with the SMD components already fitted; only the two screw terminal blocks still have to be soldered. |
