Totem Mini Lab is a small but powerful electronics laboratory for experimenting with and learning the basics of electronics. Fully compatible with the Arduino programming environment, Totem Mini Lab brings together a range of measuring instruments and ready-to-use electronic blocks for experiments.

Meant to be used together with the Totem building system, it lets users build solid workbenches with built-in breadboards. The lab is also compatible with the I/O, sensor and audio expansion boards, which can extend the capabilities of the Mini Lab further.

Totem Mini Lab is simple and fun to use! You no longer have to worry about untidy wiring, unreliable connections and so on.

What is in the box

  • TotemDuino: an improved version of the Arduino UNO
  • 34-pin flat cable: to connect TotemDuino and LabBoard together
  • Mains power supply (220 VAC to 12 VDC 1.5 A): to power the lab
  • 2 breadboards with 700 tie points: to widen the experimenting area
  • Breadboard leads: 40 male-male jumpers about 20 cm long + a set of 140 assorted jumpers for making links on solderless breadboards
  • 1 metre USB to mini-USB 2.0 cable
  • Richly illustrated technical manual in English: how to use the Totem parts to build a workbench
LabBoard
LabBoard of Totem Mini Lab
This board has two uses. It can be used as an expansion board for the TotemDuino system, giving easy access to input and output connections, or it can be used as a measuring and test unit.

It contains the following modules:

  • A section compatible with Arduino shields.
  • Output voltages available:
    12 V / 1 A – direct supply voltage
    5 V / 0.5 A – regulated supply voltage, shared with TotemDuino
    3.3 V /Ā  0.25 A – regulated supply voltage, shared with TotemDuino and the LabBoard processor
    -5 V / 0.5 A – separate regulated voltage, for experimenting with amplifiers

    – Programmable voltage output from 0 to 3.3 V, up to 0.35 A.
  • Digital to Analogue Converter
  • Voltage measurement:
    +/- 0.5 VĀ  to be used when measuring small-scale signals
    +/- 5 VĀ to measure TTL logic level signals
    +/- 50 V to measure external signals
  • Pulse generator: a unit that can generate a train of pulses with programmable width and period.
TotemDuino
TotemDuino of Mini Lab
Fully compatible with the Arduino UNO, TotemDuino adds the following new features:
  • I/O output protection – every output pin that goes into the LabBoard is protected against overvoltage and short circuits.
  • Expansion connector: a 34-pin flat cable connector lets you link TotemDuino to the LabBoard, making the pins easy to reach.
  • Powerful 5 V voltage regulator: lets you experiment with heavier power loads.
  • Selectable microcontroller logic voltage: it can run either at 5 V or at 3.3 V.
Mini Lab frame
  • No more boards in a heap: everything is arranged on a three-dimensional frame that lets you see and connect every part easily.
  • Easy to upgrade and expand: just add more mechanical or electronic parts.
  • It includes all the mechanical parts needed to assemble the frame. The Totem parts come already cut and ready to use. Magnetic screwdriver included.
  • Move your Mini Lab about safely, without having to fear that a wire will come loose or that something will break.
Optional side panels (sold separately) to expand the Mini Lab
The optionalĀ side panelsĀ contain separate, ready-to-use electronic modules such as displays, sensors, switches, etc.
