Description
Universal GSM shield for Arduino and Raspberry Pi. Supports various GSM/GPRS modules such as SimCom, Quectel, and Fibocom mounted on breakout boards (see related products). These boards all share the same pinout, so you can swap them to find the one best suited to your application, develop firmware on the shield, and then integrate the chosen module into the final circuit.
The shield lets you use voice call and SMS functions, manage GPRS data connections, and, for modules that support it, GPS as well.
The GSM shield features an audio jack for connecting a standard phone headset. It provides dedicated debug strips useful for monitoring the commands exchanged between the board (Arduino or Raspberry Pi) and the GSM module (with a USB/Serial converter – see related products).
It includes buttons to power on and reset the module manually.
The GSM shield must be powered via the microUSB connector so it can independently manage the GSM module’s power supply and handle any current spikes caused by transmission. It includes a power regulator capable of supplying up to 3A.
A library has been developed for this shield that leverages all the functions of the various GSM modules, allowing you to manage them without knowing AT command syntax.
The library is designed to do most of the work, leaving the easier task to the developer, who simply needs to adapt it to their own needs and applications.
Thanks to the extensive command set, you can initialize the module, send and read SMS, make and receive voice calls, manage the phonebook, handle security settings (such as the SIM card PIN), and establish data connections to retrieve information from the internet and send data to the cloud.
