Description
| This ECG module, built around the AD8232 chip, is designed to monitor heart rate through an electrocardiogram (ECG). The signals are picked up by three electrodes placed at their respective points on the body: RA (right arm), LA (left arm) and RL (right leg). This lets the module detect the electrical activity of the heart and give a real-time heart rate reading.
The module also has an LED indicator that pulses in time with the heartbeat it detects, giving you an immediate visual picture of the monitored heart rate. It is important to note that this product is not a medical device and is not meant to be used as one, nor is it designed to diagnose or treat any medical condition. It is intended for educational and research purposes, or for monitoring heart rate for personal wellbeing. To use the module you need to connect it to a microcontroller or a development board, such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi or an evaluation board. That lets you process the ECG signals and display them or send them to an external device for analysis. Please note: before use you have to solder the pin strips included in the pack onto the pads provided on the module.

| Typical position of the electrodes on the body |
| The closer the electrodes are placed to the heart, the better the measurement. The leads are colour-coded to help you get the positioning right, as shown in the picture below. The electrodes can be placed on the forearms and on the leg as shown, or they can be placed on the chest near the arms and above the lower right abdomen (that is, just above the right hip).
